Palliative Care
The Palliative Care Team at GRRCC aims to relieve suffering and improve the Quality of Living and Dying in those patients diagnosed with a life threatening cancer. This consultative service provides active care which addresses physical needs (including pain & other symptom management) as well as psychological, social and spiritual needs. Palliative Care may complement the active treatment of a cancer or it may be the total focus of care. The Palliative Care Team is multidisciplinary and includes specialized physicians, oncologists, nurses, social workers, spiritual care provider, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, dietitians and others. The team focuses on the needs of the patient and family. The team collaborates when necessary with other care partners including the family physician, CCAC (Home Care) and Hospice to deliver comprehensive care.
To receive a consultation and service from the Palliative Care Team, ask your supportive care coordinator or any other member of your health care team including your family physician. The team members are available at the cancer centre and provide support after hours with the help of CCAC services and a group of specialty palliative care physicians in the community.
