The Volunteer Program
The Volunteer Program operates in partnership with the Canadian Cancer
Society. Implemented to enhance the personal well-being and comfort of
patients, family members and friends, the volunteer program recruits highly
motivated and compassionate volunteers to assist you. All volunteers are
carefully screened and have attended training sessions that apply
specifically to their placement in the cancer program. Our volunteers help
make your visit as easy and comfortable as possible.
Volunteers wear blue uniforms or teal tee-shirts and hospital badges to identify themselves and they are available to help you. Please feel free to ask them:
- For information about the layout of the Cancer Centre or hospital
- For directions or an escort to your treatment area
- For a wheelchair if you feel tired
- For assistance in the Resource Centre to find the information you are looking for
- To sit with you while you are waiting or having treatments
In addition to the outpatient cancer centre, volunteers can be found supporting patients at the Family Lodge, the Look Good Feel Better program and in the inpatient oncology unit. All the volunteers are dedicated to providing excellent and compassionate care.
ROLE OF THE VOLUNTEER
Volunteers provide assistance and support to people living with cancer, and their family members and friends. Volunteers fulfill this non-clinical role by providing comfort, support and general information.
