Thank you for helping patients like my dad
Ron and Nathan’s moving message
Earlier this year, nine-year-old Nathan had the chance to meet Grand River Hospital’s CEO Ron Gagnon. They talked about their hopes and dreams for the future and Nathan’s Santa sack fundraiser.
Nathan raises $7,000
Nathan’s dad currently receives immunotherapy treatment for advanced renal cell carcinoma, a disease doctors tell him cannot be cured at this stage – but the good news is it can be treated. Nathan, along with his mom and brother, visits his dad at the hospital as much as possible. During one of those visits, Nathan decided he wanted to do something to make the clinic setting more comfortable for patients.
With the help of his mom and grandmother, he put his plan in motion and sold Santa sacks to family, friends and other people he knew in the community. The fundraiser was a huge success and raised more than $7,000!
Giving patients a more comfortable treatment space
Because of Nathan’s fundraising efforts, the hospital was able to purchase two brand new chemotherapy chairs and side tables to ensure patients can be as comfortable as possible while receiving treatment for cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. With your help, we can do even more.
Ron hopes you will be inspired by Nathan’s generosity and help other families receive treatment in the most comfortable surroundings possible. New equipment is stronger, lighter and much more for comfortable for ill patients who need to sit for long periods of time.
People are often shocked to learn that replacing worn out hospital equipment, such as treatment chairs and clinical furnishings, is not funded by the government. We are currently striving to raise $250,000 to refurbish and improve patient treatment areas across Grand River Hospital. If you can help, please donate now.
Having the privilege of meeting Nathan earlier this year was a powerful reminder of why I chose to work in health care. More than that, I was reminded what an opportunity we all have to make a positive difference in other peoples’ lives every day, regardless of how old we are, or what we do.
