The Grand Ride Ambassador

The Grand Ride Ambassador GRHF story The Grand Ride Ambassador GRHF story

Meet Paul, this year's Ambassador for The Grand Ride.

Meet Waterloo resident Paul Guerriero. When Paul was diagnosed with cancer in 2013, he was left with concerns about how his care would impact his life and those of his loved ones.

For Paul, and other cancer patients in Waterloo Wellington, he was able to receive care at a top-ranking cancer program at Grand River Hospital.

Grand River Regional Cancer Centre is a full-service cancer treatment and research centre, offering specialized areas of care including chemotherapy and radiation therapy.

Paul made regular visits to the cancer centre for twelve months to receive treatment. Although a difficult situation, he credits the compassionate staff and volunteers for ensuring his experience was comfortable.

As a passionate sales manager, it was important for Paul to continue working part time while receiving treatment. Because of the cancer centre’s proximity to home, he was able to do so.

At the end of treatment and towards his recovery, Paul pulled out the bike that he got before he was diagnosed and took to the road.

When he heard about The Grand Ride, he knew he wanted to be part of it.

On September 10, Paul will participate in The Grand Ride for the second time and will lead the way as the ride ambassador.

“The cancer centre helped me overcome cancer. I am riding in support of the staff and future patients, to ensure they receive the great experience I did.”

For Paul, being part of The Grand Ride means he’s ensuring our community can continue to receive exceptional care from a top ranking cancer program close to home.
