Meet Scott. Scott and Jill Williard presented a $5,080 donation from his Superbowl Tailgate party for the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre to Tracey Bailey, CEO and President of Grand River Hospital Foundation.

Cancer takes the lives of many people every day, and in August of 2000, colon cancer took Nadine Williard at the age of 25. Nadine did not get to see the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre before it was opened, but she was a big advocate for it. Because of this her husband Scott started raising money for the cancer centre. Nadine’s passion for the new centre became Scott’s passion and she is still his motivation to fundraise for cancer.

Scott not only lost his wife to cancer, but his mother is a breast cancer survivor. This year is the seventh year he invited people to join him for a Superbowl Tailgate party. The proceeds went to support the Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. And it was his biggest year yet, raising $5,080. Scott said, “I’m overwhelmed every time by the support and success.” The support and actions from community members like Scott not only help bring awareness about the cancer centre but encourages others to join the fight against cancer.

When asked about advice he would give to someone thinking of fundraising he said, “You have to be passionate about a cause, and make it entertaining for the people who attend.” One thing he suggests is raffle draws. “[Prizes] donated from local business and people in the community really help to generate money,” Scott said.
