If you supported McHappy Day this year, you might have come across some of our incredible Grand River staff and volunteers at three local McDonald’s locations, bringing the community together for local children’s cancer care.

In addition to supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities, McDonald’s restaurants have the ability to give additional McHappy Day proceeds to local organizations, and Richard Quek, the owner of these local McDonald's restaurants, and his team generously chose to donate $6,000 to enhance children's cancer care through Scotland’s Yard at Grand River Hospital.

Currently, local families need to travel to places like Hamilton, London or Toronto for certain aspects of the cancer care their children need. So, beyond supporting the Ronald McDonald House in Hamilton to help the children and families who must travel there for care, this new partnership with Richard and his team will also help local kids receive more cancer care right here in Kitchener-Waterloo through the Scotland's Yard initiative.

In this first phase of Scotland’s Yard, our community is fundraising for additional medical equipment, so more diagnostic procedures and treatments can be performed locally. These fundraising efforts also support personalized, holistic care to help families cope with the emotional and financial challenges that can come with having a child undergoing cancer treatment.
