Golfers will hit the greens in support of cancer care on Saturday, August 19 at Wildwinds Golf Links during the third annual RJ Strong Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament will go to the Ryan Johnston Family & Friends Fund to support the needs of young adults receiving care at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. Inspired by his experience undergoing treatment at the Cancer Centre for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Ryan Johnston established the fund to provide patients with financial assistance for common cancer-related expenses.

“The needs of young adults are particularly unique — this is a complex period in a young adult’s life where they may be working to establish their own identity, making decisions about education or careers, or pursuing changing relationships or family structures to name a few,” explained Christine Peters, Regional Oncology Lead, Waterloo Wellington Regional Cancer Program. “The needs of young adults are distinct and complex and are often derailed by a cancer diagnosis. Practical support like help with cell phone bills … and transportation can be incredibly helpful or tools to make long cancer treatments more bearable like entertainment devices.”

A meal will be provided following the tournament, and registration costs $540 per team of four.
